A COLLABORATIVE BOOK PROJECT

7x7 is a collaboration by seven queer artists in three different cities--Chicago, Minneapolis and Oakland. We each began a book with a single page and a single concept--Trashy, Nailpolish, Crotches, Meat, Secrets, Interdependence, and Pleasure each emerged. Then, each book was mailed around to six other people over more than a year, slowly forming into one book. We sometimes discussed out themes and ideas, but most of the time we didn't. Our work on individual pages also leaked onto other pages and each book became a distinct collaborative creature. Finally, all the finished books were bound accordion-style so they can be laid flat or folded up. When they're not on display (currently at the Kitchen Sink in Chicago), they live in a very nice cardboard box.
